Dolores Ordoñez & Rosa Pozas, AnySolution
After several years of collaboration, the D3HUB project organised its final event, bringing together European institutions, tourism destinations, public authorities, organisations and experts at the Auditorium of ParcBit in Mallorca, both in person and online.
Coordinated by AnySolution, D3HUB has worked towards the creation of a European competence centre to support tourism destinations in managing and making better use of data, with the aim of contributing to a more sustainable, resilient and competitive tourism sector.
Bringing the D3HUB journey together
The final event provided an opportunity to reflect on the work carried out throughout the project and, most importantly, on how data can support destinations in addressing some of the challenges facing tourism today.
The event opened with a welcome from Mona Bjöklund, Director for Tourism at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), and Dolores Ordóñez, Director of AnySolution and D3HUB Coordinator.
The programme then brought together representatives from European institutions, tourism organisations and destinations to discuss sustainable tourism, the results of D3HUB and the experience of the pilot phase.
A key part of the event focused on the project’s results and the approaches developed to strengthen destinations’ capacity to work with data. The D3HUB Academy, the project’s support process, the D3HUB dashboards, the pilot activities and the use of data for tourism management were among the topics presented by project partners and participating destinations.
From data to better decisions
One of the main achievements of D3HUB has been the development of personalised dashboards for the 40 destinations participating in the pilot.
The dashboards provide a system for visualising and analysing data to support destinations in areas such as tourism flows, the balance between residents and visitors, climate adaptation and emerging destinations. The pilot also enabled destinations to monitor key indicators across the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable tourism.
These developments were supported by NADIA, the platform developed by AnySolution and based on European standards, covering the data lifecycle from data collection and transformation to the generation of value.
As Dolores Ordóñez highlighted during the event, data is a key element for the future of tourism, but it needs to be properly managed and understood in order to support better decisions and contribute to a more competitive, sustainable and resilient sector.
Connecting projects and building on the work
The final event also highlighted the importance of collaboration across European initiatives.
A dedicated session explored synergies and complementarities with projects and initiatives including DEPLOYTOUR, FACILITATE, SMART CAPITAL, PANTOUR and FUTourAlliances, followed by contributions from European tourism networks and organisations.
The event concluded with a roundtable moderated by Misa Labarile, bringing together representatives of the D3HUB partners to discuss the next steps and how the work developed through the project can continue to create value for the tourism ecosystem.
A journey that continues through FACILITATE
The D3HUB project may now be coming to an end, but the work does not stop here. The experience, knowledge and connections developed throughout the project provide a strong foundation for continuing to support a more data-driven, sustainable and resilient tourism ecosystem.
Through FACILITATE, this work continues by bringing together tourism stakeholders and supporting the development of skills and capacities needed to navigate the digital and data-driven transformation of the sector.
The D3HUB final event was therefore not only an opportunity to look back at what has been achieved, but also to look ahead and explore how the work can continue to create value for European tourism.
Thank you to all D3HUB partners, destinations, speakers and stakeholders who have contributed to this journey.
The D3HUB journey may be coming to an end, but the work continues through FACILITATE.
